Mia Saker, a young female apprentice working at Blurred in Melbourne, outshone 35 other finalists from around the world. Two finalists were Aussies. She has been crowned as the first ever HEXIS PWS World PPF champion, after two intense days of competition at the HEXIS global headquarters in Frontignan, France,
Working first on Supercars like Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Maseratis the Grande Final cars were two Aston Martins and a 490P Ferrari – while an Aston Martin Valhalla sat front and centre in the room as a permanent distraction. All 36 wrap-stars set about showcasing their range of skills in working with HEXIS BODYFENCE Paint Protection Films, ultimately competing for cash prizes of €10,000, €5,000 and €2,500 (first to third place) as well as future bragging rights.
Clément Mateu, CEO of HEXIS, says: “Fitting PPF is a precision job, where everything comes down to the millimetre and where success is often measured as much by what you cannot see. In creating the PPF World Series, we wanted to give these professionals a stage worthy of their skill. Bringing together thirty-six finalists from thirteen countries to Frontignan, where our films are made, is a real source of pride for me and for our company.”
At the end of competition Day One, a panel of expert judges assessed the technical performance of the contestants in their ability to apply a clear film to a car’s bodywork without a single bubble, crease or ridge, following every curve of the vehicle, judging them on precision, material handling skills, time-management and quality of finish.
Day Two, however threw up a whole new set of challenges for those still standing and for the Finals, each competitor had to install a half bonnet and front bar, front guard and a mirror, given just 2 hours to complete the job and, just to throw in an additional challenge, the contestants now had to use a brand new version of BODYXFAST Satin finish as well as the new Candyfence colour for the mirror.
On site, having the other 30 contestants watching on, along with a small entourage from HEXIS that included founder Michel Mateu and his family, not to mention a worldwide audience connected in via HEXIS’s live You Tube channel, the pressure was definitely on, making Mia’s winning achievement all the more remarkable.
